Between-Studs Storage WITHOUT Complicated Woodworking

When comparing our first house to this house, it was quickly noticeable that we have twice as much room but about half the storage, and that was especially true of our bathroom. So, I had to come up with a few ways to add storage in my bathroom remodel design. One of these ways to add storage is a bathroom project I’ve managed to finish (this room is taking forever…for a variety of reasons I’ll get to at a later date), so I thought I’d share this project with you while I’m feeling like I’ve actually accomplished something.

DIY Framed Stay-on-the-Wall Art

When last we left Sunny’s DIY home renovation, I’d shared with you my new hallway floor and mentioned that I was trying to figure out what to put on the walls. I REALLY like what I came up with, and it only took me an afternoon!

A lot of people suggested letting my kids draw pictures and then hanging their art in frames along the hall. This is a cute idea, but everywhere in our house is “kid zone” and looks like this.

DIY Herringbone Floor in a Hallway

I’m sure I will be very sad when my husband’s cat finally dies. But, as you might’ve learned from one of my TikTok rants, I will not miss ruined carpets. We’re holding out on replacing most of our house’s flooring until after Lucky passes, but our upstairs hallway carpet had suffered so many Lucky “visits” that I couldn’t take it anymore. Eventually we will probably put all new carpet in the hallway and bedrooms because this is Michigan and it gets COLD up there in winter, but for now I found a fairly inexpensive and kinda cool new flooring solution. Is it temporary or is it permanent? We’ll see when the time comes for carpet in the bedrooms.

Custom DIY Bar Stand for a Beverage Fridge

In our more optimistic moments, my husband and I like to think we’re social. In one such moment, we bought a beverage fridge for our basement so it would be easy to get drinks when we had people over for bonfires in our backyard (and also just to be stocked up for company in general). We had a nice little corner spot for the fridge, but the problem was that we had ONLY the space and nothing else. It looked like this:

Homemade Geode Sun-Catchers

One of the unexpected, great things about having kids is that they 100% have forced me to be less of a perfectionist. I’ve never said “good enough” as often as I have since trying to complete projects with two little bundles of attention-seeking joy underfoot. I’ve learned to not fix their art projects or crafts or sections of my own projects that they help with. Sometimes a goof or quirkily finished section of molding paint is a good thing – it stays as a reminder of a good time when “we helped mommy there” and shows that this is their home too.

I’ve always been crafty, and I love that I’m seeing that interest in my girls more and more. This also means that I have little people to make crafts for rather than just having a bunch of ideas but no one to give things to (or any place to put them).
